Roughly: 20 minutes zazen, 5 minutes kinhin, 30 minutes zazen. The last sit was most beneficial. I seemed to settle into a new level of tranquility – one with a lightness to it. I don’t think you’ll see the e word much around here. More likely kensho: seeing one’s true nature. A moment of insight, possibly – or at least something to ask my teacher. Perhaps kensho is less something that can happen to you, and more a skill you train. Though rinzai does teach the suddenness of it. Perhaps the skill is retaining it – and that’s the muscle to train.
